The visit of Sherburn White Rose Tigers was the next game before the league season takes a break for the first round of the Cup. The game started with the Vikings on the front foot, but it was Sherburn who had the first shot on goal. Both teams were struggling to get a foot hold but on 7 minutes a long ball over the top caught the Vikings defence but the Sherburn player put the ball over the bar. The same tactic worked again but a good save from Daniel kept the ball out.

The game settled into a midfield battle with both teams cancelling each other out. The Vikings were having the better of the territory but couldn’t create any clear chances. After 15 minutes Tommy had a shot that was saved by the Sherburn keeper. Sherburn continued to look for the ball over the top but Riccall were winning the midfield battle without it leading to any good chances. After 31 minutes a Riccall goal kick was intercepted by the Sherburn striker who finished the chance to give Sherburn the lead. The Vikings tried to get back level before half time but went into the break 1-0 down.

The second half started in a similar way to the first half with the Vikings having the better of possession and territory but without creating any clear chances. Sherburn continued with trying to catch the Vikings on the break. A good run by Jacob lead to a shot on goal 9 minutes into the second half but the shot went wide. A couple of minutes later, a through ball from Peter put Jacob through on goal and his shot was tipped over by the Sherburn keeper. The Vikings were applying the pressure but couldn’t find the breakthrough.

From a Sherburn corner Daniel made a good save to keep the score at 1-0. The Vikings kept trying to get forward but on 59 minutes Sherburn broke and won a corner. From the resulting cross, Sherburn scored with a header. After going into a challenge, Hannah had to leave the pitch with an ankle injury and from the freekick Peter’s effort was saved by the Sherburn keeper. The Vikings kept trying to apply the pressure, but the game was over on 66 minutes when Sherburn scored following a ricochet in the box. There hadn’t been much to choose between the teams for most of the game, but Sherburn took their chances to take the win.
